Lessons Learned
facilitated by the SNEC Lower Fairfield County Breakfast Meeting Planning Team

Lessons Learned is defined by PMBOK as “The knowledge gained during a project, which shows how project events were addressed or should be addressed in the future, for the purpose of improving future performance.”  Lessons learned can be gathered in a meeting format or other ways, either as the project is ongoing or at the end of the project. Most project managers are aware of this activity and see its value, but many struggle to:

  • Find the time to perform the activity before moving on to the next project, and/or
  • Facilitate organization adoption of the recommendations that are an outcome of the lessons learned.

In this session, we want to create a dialog to explore your experiences with Lessons Learned. We are seeking to address the following questions:

  • What is your experience with Lessons Learned?
    • If you have experience with Lessons Learned, do you collect Lessons Learned on all your projects, or only selected ones?
    • How do you routinely collect Lessons Learned?
    • What challenges and successes have you had with getting your organization to adopt the recommendations from Lessons Learned?
  • Is there (or should there) be a difference in the approach to Lessons Learned between projects that are being conducted in Agile vs Waterfall methodologies?

Please join us for this session so we can learn from each other’s experiences on the important but challenging topic of Lessons Learned!
