Project Management and Technical Debt
facilitated by Joseph Carfagno, PMP

PMI defines technical debt as “the implied cost of future refactoring or rework to improve the quality of an asset to make it easy to maintain and extend.” The term was coined by Ward Cunningham, an author of The Agile Manifesto, but it doesn’t just apply to software. I wouldn’t want to drive over a bridge that has massive technical debt.

How do you address technical debt at your organization? How do you explain it to people, such as sponsors, who may not understand what it is?

How do you ensure you’re not introducing technical debt in your projects? Do you ever have to tolerate it because of external factors such as time constraints or the skill of the people executing the projects?

Bring your insights, opinions, war stories, suggestions for action, or just plain curiosity about Project Management and Technical Debt.
