Project Management and Work-Life Balance
facilitated by Joseph Carfagno, PMP

Having a healthy Work-Life Balance keeps us mentally and emotionally refreshed. This usually leads to better project results.

There are many factors that can disrupt Work-Life Balance including:

  • Unpredictable issues that occur during project execution
  • Balancing project work with support work
  • Continuous learning (SNEC-PMI events excepted)
  • Client Driven changes also known as scope creep
  • Resource Management challenges: people having conflicting commitments, people leaving
  • Working with people in other time zones
  • Integration of work and personal technologies

Some common methods used to achieve work life balance are establishing realistic work hours, delegation, empowering team members, networking, and adopting agile methodologies.

Do you use any of these strategies to increase Work-Life balance? Do you use any other methods? How many hours per week do you work? How much do you think about work when you’re off the clock.

Bring your insights, opinions, suggestions for action, or just plain curiosity about project management and Work-Life Balance.
